Reading 5- The First Global Village
O livro desta semana é ‘The First Global Village’ escrito por Martin Page, um escritor britânico apaixonado por Portugal e sua história.
Comprei a segunda edição em 2002, ainda sem ter chegado à lista dos bestsellers na altura… Hoje, já vendeu 12ª edições (mais de 20 mil cópias) e continua a ser uma referência, pois trata-se de uma obra que explica a História de Portugal de forma acessível e divertida. Por outro lado, aborda os acontecimentos com um olhar estrangeiro, o que é sempre interessante quando estão a falar do nosso país.
Por incrível que pareça, na altura nunca o terminei. Talvez porque estivesse em inglês, não sei. Mas agora voltando à sua leitura (porque vai ser o livro discutido no primeiro Book Club do SecondHome em Lisboa, organizado por mim) estou a adorar. Vale mesmo a pena…e aproveitem para o comprar com os descontos da Feira do Livro de Lisboa, pode ser que valha a pena!

This week’s book is ‘The First Global Village’ written by Martin Page, a British author that felt in love with Portugal and its history.
I bought the second edition in 2002, without having reached the list of bestsellers at the time … Today, it has sold 12 editions (more than 20 thousand copies) and remains a reference, because it is a work that explains the History of Portugal in an accessible and funny way.
On the other hand, it explains the events with a foreign look, which is always interesting.
Incredibly, I never finished it at the time. Maybe because it was in English, I don’t know. But now back to the reading (because it will be the book discussed in the first Book Club of SecondHome in Lisbon, organized by me) I am loving it. It’s worth it!
